Okay, I’m only going to agree to half of that. ALL royals know where the cameras are and ALL use that to their advantage. That is why you see them slowly turn their heads from side to side when walking the red carpet. They are not supposed to stand and pose like some celebrity so this is how they stay in connection with their “good side” and the cameras. QEII does this, Camilla does this, William does this, Harry does this, etc. Additionally, celebrities do many things like this as well. I recently read a book about stars and the red carpet, and it detailed how some celebs get there before the event starts so that they know where the cameras are and how their positioned so that they can walk the carpet gracefully and always be in the proper position for a good photo. It’s just how things are.
Now with the last part of your statement, I do not think she was trying to “manipulate them to capture how sad she [was].” I think she was trying to really portray how “moved” she was by the ballet dancers’ performance. Like I said in my post from last night, many public figures will exaggerate their emotions or responses to an engagement so that the photogs can get a good picture (or many good pictures). I think Diana was trying to give the photogs a good shot of her enjoying and being enraptured by the performance.

Hmm…I wonder if we’re going to get a picture of her leaving the hospital. It would be nice to have a picture of her waving and all that jazz.
I agree and disagree with your point. Yes, the argument with the photogs is petty. You drown when you fight the current. It’s better to just lay back and ride the wave. Being photographed is just a part of their life. The sooner they accept that fact, the sooner they can get on with a happy life. Yes, someone somewhere is going to step over the line and when that happens legal action will be there to help them. But going on a witch hunt to get the people that photograph Kate when she’s out and about in London is not worth going after and every public figure has to accept that. If she doesn’t want to be photographed then she shouldn’t be in public. It’s just silly to go after harmless people simply doing their job. If they had intentions of getting the best picture over the health of the person their photographing, as they did Diana, then that’s another story. But that’s not what is happening with William and Kate.
And to disagree, William and Kate live in the life of luxury that only 1% of the world understands. Poverty and many illnesses do not factor into their lives and are only highlighted to them during engagements. But just as we have things in life that annoy us, so do they. To them, the press (particularly the paps) is like the gnats you have to swat out while picnicking outside. Do we not search several stores for a bug repellant to get rid of them? Celebrities and public figures don’t have a solution like that. They can’t go to the store without being harassed about what they are wearing, how their hair looks, and what their makeup looks like. We are allowed to walk up into Walmart in pajamas that are 10 years old, hair a mess, and makeup splotched and not one person would give a damn. So I could see how that could continuously annoy them and make them complain. We complain about annoying things in our lives. The only difference is our complaints are made public for millions to read about.

Diana and paparazzi :
“Could I ask you to respect my children’s space.
I want to protect children… thank you”
The Lady Diana Spencer tried to leave somewhere without being caught by the paparazzi. But the paparazzi occasionally ‘caught’ her escaping home and work through back doors and alleyways.
